One of the most common ways to use CBD is by vaping it. But how do you vape CBD? What are the pros and cons? And what is the best brand? These and several other frequently asked questions get answered in this ‘CBD Vaping For Beginners’ guide!
The Pros And Cons Of Vaping CBD
Besides vaping, there are several other ways to use CBD. Let’s start this ‘CBD Vaping For Beginners’ guide by looking at the biggest pros and cons of vaping CBD compared to other methods.
The biggest pros of vaping CBD:
– Out of all methods, vaping has the quickest absorption rate. You’ll feel the effects almost immediately after vaping CBD!
– Because of the very effective absorption rate, CBD vapes also have the highest ‘bioavailability’. This means that more mg of CBD is absorbed when vaping compared to other methods. So, vaping is the most potent way to use CBD.
– Another pro of CBD vapes is the portability and convenience. You can carry CBD vape devices (such as pens) everywhere you go, and use them very easily.
– The final big advantage of vaping CBD is that it generally tastes better than sublingual CBD oil, plus you’ve got lots of flavors to choose from.
The biggest cons of vaping CBD:
– Probably the biggest con of vaping CBD is that a lot of brands use potentially harmful agents in their CBD vape liquids. When these agents reach high temperatures they can possibly become unhealthy and cause irritations and allergic reactions, or even worse. To avoid inhaling these potentially toxic agents you have to make sure that you’re only using high-quality CBD vape products that are 100% natural. It’s also important to check the ingredient list to see if there are no potentially harmful substances on it. The CBD brand that we highly recommend for vaping is this one. All their vape products are 100% natural, high-quality and don’t contain any potentially harmful agents. Therefore, they should be a lot safer than most other CBD vape products on the market.
– Another con of vaping CBD is that the effects last 2 to 3 hours only, which is shorter than other CBD methods.
– The last disadvantage of vaping CBD is that it’s generally a bit more expensive in the long run than using CBD tinctures.
The most common alternatives to vaping CBD are tinctures and edibles. This article compares the pros and cons of all three methods more detailed!
How Do You Vape CBD? (All The Methods!)
Alright, so we understand the biggest pros and cons of vaping CBD now. Let’s continue this ‘CBD Vaping For Beginners’ guide by answering the question “how do you vape CBD?”. There are several different ways to vape CBD. We described the most common ones below:
Disposable Vape Pens For CBD
The first method is by using a disposable vape pen for CBD. Disposable pens are perfect for beginners, since they’re the easiest way to vape CBD. These tiny pens are pre-filled with CBD vape liquid and have a built-in coil and battery. Therefore, they don’t need any preparation. You also don’t need to push any buttons usually; all you need to do is inhale, and the vape pen will do the rest of the work. You can generally get a few hundred puffs out of these CBD pens before you need to dispose of them.
Refillable CBD Vape Devices (Using CBD Vape Liquid)
If you are a bit more advanced and vape regularly, you could go for a rechargeable CBD vape device (such as refillable CBD vape pens). You have to fill these yourself with CBD vape liquid. Refillable CBD vape devices generally produce a bit more vapor and flavor than disposable vape pens (due to higher quality), and are more cost-effective in the long run. A rechargeable CBD vape device requires some more maintenance (such as changing the coil and cleaning the tank), and requires a bit more knowledge to operate. To make sure you’re using it properly you should read the user manual that comes with it carefully.
CBD Vape Cartridges & JUUL Pods
Another common method is using CBD vape cartridges. This method is the easiest after disposable pens. Cartridges are tanks that are pre-filled with CBD vape liquid. You need to attach these CBD vape tanks to an e-cigarette battery (or another vape device that is compatible with it). CBD vape cartridges require almost no maintenance since they are disposable. They’re also very easy to operate. CBD pods are quite similar to cartridges, but they are compatible with a JUUL battery.
CBD Vape Additives
Some brands also sell CBD vape additives. These are CBD drops that you can add to regular vape juice. This way you can vape your favorite regular E-liquids, but infused with CBD by yourself! So if you really can’t find a CBD vape liquid flavor that you like, CBD vape additives can be a nice solution. CBD vape additive drops contain high concentrations of CBD, so you only need to add a few of them.
Dry Herb Vaping CBD Flower
A less common (but yet one of the best ways to vape CBD in our opinion) is dry herb vaping CBD flower in its pure form. This method is further explained in our CBD flower guide.
CBD Vape Dosage (How Much CBD Should I Vape?)

Now you understand how to vape CBD, let’s move on to the question “how much CBD should I vape?” The CBD vape dosage is complicated to determine since it differs for everyone. It depends on the reason of use, and every person reacts different to CBD. This dosage guide can help you to determine how much CBD you should vape for your condition in terms of milligrams.
It’s hard to tell how much ‘puffs’ you need to take, as the CBD strength differs for each vape product. You can usually find the strength on the product itself, the packaging or on the website of the brand. For CBD vape cartridges and disposable pens, 1 puff is often 1 or 2 mg of CBD. When you can’t find the amount of CBD per puff of your product, you have to look at the total amount of CBD that it contains plus the total amount of puffs you can get out of it. So, for example: when you’ve got a vape pen containing 300 mg of CBD in total and you can get 200 puffs out of it, you will have 1.5 mg of CBD with each puff. For rechargeable CBD vape devices you need to calculate the dosage by looking at how much ml of CBD vape liquid you’re using.
Can You Vape CBD Tinctures?
A very common question is “can you vape CBD tinctures?”. The answer is no; you can not put the CBD oil from tinctures that are made for sublingual use in vape devices. You can only vape the CBD liquids that are specially made for vaping. The reason for this is because certain substances are added to CBD liquids in order to be able to vape them. These substances are safe to vape, but not to ingest. Therefore these substances only occur in CBD vape liquids, not in regular CBD oil tinctures. So, just like you can’t vape CBD tinctures, it’s also a very bad idea to ingest CBD vape juice orally.
What Is The Best CBD Vape Brand?
There are a lot of CBD vape brands on the market. Some of them are good, but there are also a lot of bad ones. When it comes to CBD vape products it is really important to use a high-quality brand. This way you can avoid inhaling potentially toxic agents (as described earlier in this article), and reap the maximum potential benefits of CBD. The CBD brand we highly recommend is this one. All their vape products are 100% natural, high-quality and they don’t contain potentially harmful substances. You can read our experience with that brand more detailed in this review.

Abstract
In this contribution, a comprehensive study of the redox transformation, electronic structure, stability and photoprotective properties of phytocannabinoids is presented. The non-psychotropic cannabidiol (CBD), cannabigerol (CBG), cannabinol (CBN), cannabichromene (CBC), and psychotropic tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) isomers and iso-THC were included in the study. The results show that under aqueous ambient conditions at pH 7.4, non-psychotropic cannabinoids are slight or moderate electron-donors and they are relatively stable, in the following order: CBD>CBG≥CBN>CBC. In contrast, psychotropic Δ9-THC degrades approximately one order of magnitude faster than CBD. The degradation (oxidation) is associated with the transformation of OH groups and changes in the double-bond system of the investigated molecules. The satisfactory stability of cannabinoids is associated with the fact that their OH groups are fully protonated at pH 7.4 (pKa is ≥ 9). The instability of CBN and CBC was accelerated after exposure to UVA radiation, with CBD (or CBG) being stable for up to 24 h. To support their topical applications, an in vitro dermatological comparative study of cytotoxic, phototoxic and UVA or UVB photoprotective effects using normal human dermal fibroblasts (NHDF) and keratinocytes (HaCaT) was done. NHDF are approx. twice as sensitive to the cannabinoids’ toxicity as HaCaT. Specifically, toxicity IC50 values for CBD after 24 h of incubation are 7.1 and 12.8 μM for NHDF and HaCaT, respectively. None of the studied cannabinoids were phototoxic. Extensive testing has shown that CBD is the most effective protectant against UVA radiation of the studied cannabinoids. For UVB radiation, CBN was the most effective. The results acquired could be used for further redox biology studies on phytocannabinoids and evaluations of their mechanism of action at the molecular level. Furthermore, the UVA and UVB photoprotectivity of phytocannabinoids could also be utilized in the development of new cannabinoid-based topical preparations.

Disposition of Phytocannabinoids, Their Acidic Precursors and Their Metabolites in Biological Matrices of Healthy Individuals Treated with Vaporized Medical Cannabis

Inhalation by vaporization is a useful application mode for medical cannabis. In this study, we present the disposition of Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiol (CBD), their acidic precursors, and their metabolites in serum, oral fluid, and urine together with the acute pharmacological effects in 14 healthy individuals treated with vaporized medical cannabis. THC and CBD peaked firstly in serum and then in oral fluid, with higher concentrations in the first biological matrices and consequent higher area under the curve AUCs. Acidic precursors Δ-9-tetrahydrocannabinolic acid A (THCA) and cannabidiolic acid (CBDA) showed a similar time course profile but lower concentrations due to the fact that vaporization partly decarboxylated these compounds. All THC and CBD metabolites showed a later onset with respect to the parent compounds in the absorption phase and a slower decrease to baseline. In agreement with serum kinetics, THC-COOH-GLUC and 7-COOH-CBD were the significantly most excreted THC and CBD metabolites. The administration of vaporized medical cannabis induced prototypical effects associated with the administration of cannabis or THC in humans, with a kinetic trend overlapping that of parent compounds and metabolites in serum. The pharmacokinetics of cannabinoids, their precursors, and their metabolites in biological fluids of individuals treated with vaporized medical cannabis preparations showed a high interindividual variability as in the case of oral medical cannabis decoction and oil. Inhaled medical cannabis was absorbed into the organism earlier than decoction and oil. Cannabinoids reached higher systemic concentrations, also due to the fact that the acid precursors decarboxylated to parent cannabinoids at high temperatures, and consequently, the physiological and subjective effects occurred earlier and resulted with higher intensity. No serious adverse effects were observed.
