Former LA County Sheriff’s Deputy Gets Prison Sentence for Faking Drug Raid

A former LA County Sheriff’s Deputy has been formally sentenced for his role in a fake drug raid.

Marc Antrim, a former LA County sheriff’s deputy, was sentenced for orchestrating a fake drug raid, a ruse he used to steal more than half a ton of cannabis and $600,000 in cash from a warehouse. He will serve seven years in federal prison.

Antrim pleaded guilty to the crimes in 2019, which included brandishing a firearm during a drug trafficking crime and deprivation of rights under color of law. Now, after facing the judge in court, he was found guilty and is being sentenced in a move that is not surprising, considering he pled guilty. After the stunt that was pulled, law enforcement is not likely to go easy on this crime.

“The seriousness of the crime could not be overstated,” U.S. District Judge Virginia A. Phillips said during the sentencing hearing. She claimed the crime was so serious because it could further erode the public’s trust in law enforcement. In addition to being worried about excessive police force, people will also be worried about police heists.

The Crimes of the Former LA County Sheriff’s Deputy

The crime was committed in 2018. Antrim took a police car from the sheriff’s station and showed his badge to the legal cannabis business that got robbed, claiming he had a search warrant and instructions to investigate. Although the former LA County sheriff’s deputy was off-duty at the time, he was wearing his police uniform, and was joined by three other accomplices, Kevin McBride and Matthew James Perez, and Daniel Aguilera.

McBride and James Perez helped him detain warehouse security guards, and Aguilera showed up with a rental truck to take the cannabis. The heist was almost busted when the Los Angeles Police Department showed up, but Antrim claimed he was authorized to search the property and put one of the officers on the phone with someone he claimed was his supervisor. This fooled the LAPD, and they left and let the heist continue.

However, their luck did not hold, as the business contacted their attorney, who got in touch with the sheriff’s department with footage of the robbery. From there, a GPS device attached to the moving truck led authorities to McBride’s home, where they discovered the cannabis and a gun and flashlight registered to Antrim, as well as more firearms and lots of cash.

In addition to the former LA County sheriff’s deputy’s sentencing, McBride is serving six years in federal prison, according to the U.S. attorney’s office, and several others have also been convicted. Christopher Myung Kim is serving 14 years for planning the heist. As a disgruntled former employee, he ended up with $1.5m in stolen cannabis after the raid. Perez, Aguilera, and Eric Rodriguez are all serving time in prison, and Jay Colby Sanford, who served as lookout, will be given five years’ probation.

This incident is yet another example of the harm that can come to the cannabis industry as long as federal legalization is still on hold. Until cannabis is truly legal, there will always be room to question legitimate operations that can lead to heists and other white-collar crime like this fake drug raid.

Acquisition includes Dalitso’s 93,000 sq. ft. Facility and Nine Acres of Land

Positioned to Efficiently Produce a Consistent Supply of Medical Products as the Virginia Market Matures and Expands

Boca Raton, Florida – April 14, 2021 – Jushi Holdings Inc. (“Jushi” or the “Company”) (CSE: JUSH) (OTCMKTS: JUSHF), vertically integrated, multi-state cannabis operator, announced it signed a definitive agreement to purchase the 93,000 sq. ft. facility (the “Facility”), operated by its wholly-owned subsidiary and Virginia-based pharmaceutical processor, Dalitso LLC (“Dalitso”), together with approximately nine acres of surrounding land in Prince William County, Virginia, for approximately $22 million (the “Acquisition”). The Acquisition, together with Dalitso’s planned buildout of the Facility, will enable Dalitso to efficiently produce a consistent supply of medical cannabis products as patient access improves and as the medical cannabis program matures and expands. The Acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close in the second quarter of 2021.

“The Virginia cannabis market is an area of strategic focus for Jushi given Dalitso’s strong position in the most densely populated region in the Commonwealth,” said Jim Cacioppo, Chief Executive Officer, Chairman, and Founder of Jushi. “Through the completion of this acquisition, Dalitso will have the expansion capacity required to scale cultivation and processing to meet the anticipated patient demand of a growing program. Jushi is dedicated to providing patients with best-in-class products and dispensing experiences that go beyond expectations. To that end, we look forward to the continued build out of our Facility so we can best serve registered patients. Separately, we were pleased to see Governor Northam and the General Assembly respond to their constituents by moving the effective date of legal possession date for small amounts of cannabis forward to July 1, 2021. We hope the Governor and General Assembly will act expeditiously and with similar decisiveness to authorize legal procurement so Virginians without a medical certification have access to safe and controlled cannabis products in a regulated market without material delay.”

In December 2020, Jushi announced it completed the acquisition of the remaining 21% of the issued and outstanding equity of Dalitso, bringing its ownership to 100%. Jushi also announced in December 2020 that Dalitso had commenced operations at the Manassas facility and officially began serving patients at its BEYOND / HELLO Manassas location.

Dalitso is one of only five applicants to have received conditional approval for a pharmaceutical processor permit issued by the Virginia Board of Pharmacy, and one of only four to have received final approval and permit issuance in the Commonwealth. Dalitso’s permit allows Dalitso to cultivate, process, dispense, and deliver medical cannabis to registered patients in Virginia. The designated area for Dalitso to operate is Health Service Area II, in Northern Virginia, which includes two of Virginia’s most densely populated counties, Fairfax and Prince William, and has a population of approximately 2.5 million people or nearly 30% of the state’s total population according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

First Danish F-35 fighter jet debuts at Lockheed Martin plant

The first F-35A for the Royal Danish Air Force has been rolled out at Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth, Texas, for the first time.

This major F-35 programme milestone strengthens national defence and global partnerships between the United States, Denmark and other F-35 partner and buying nations.

“The security situation around the world is increasingly complex,” said Trine Bramsen, Danish minister of defence. “Being able to defend yourself and your allies is crucial. For peace. For stability. For freedom and democracy. With the new F-35 fighter jets we will increase our ability to protect Denmark. Our region. And wherever necessary as we have done before – side by side with the US and other allies. The F-35s will be at the absolute center for the Danish Defense in the coming decades.”

Like the F-16 before it, the F-35 is spearheading NATO’s air power and ensuring strategic integration of allied combat airpower. The vital interoperability of the fifth generation F-35 binds 13 allies and partners with the US in air dominance and enabling critical joint capabilities. The F-35 will serve as a force multiplier for Denmark, allowing the Royal Danish Air Force to train and fight alongside NATO allies and create a strong deterrent.

“The F-35 will ensure Denmark’s sovereignty and air dominance, enhance its multidomain and network-based coalition operations, and play a pivotal role in keeping the Arctic a secure and stable region,” said Greg Ulmer, executive vice president, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics. “This game-changing capability would not be possible without the unwavering support of the Danish government and the innovative contributions of Danish industry.”

Senior government and military leaders from Denmark and the US attended the ceremony.

Danish industry serves as a critical partner with the F-35 programme through high technology work, ensuring competitiveness and defence industry viability in Denmark. Two Danish companies, Terma A/S and Multicut A/S, are currently making parts such as pylons, advanced composites, software solutions, radar components and horizontal tail edges for every F-35 delivered.

Denmark’s F-35 programme of record calls for 27 F-35A aircraft, each of which will be built at Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth. The first aircraft will be delivered to Luke Air Force Base, Arizona, later this month where Danish pilots and maintainers will begin training.
