What is ASD? How can you deal with it?
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is an incurable condition that affects social interaction, communication, interests and behaviors. Those who are dealing with this developmental disorder have a hard time communicating with other people and in some cases, they experience repetitive behaviors and narrow interests.
People can be diagnosed with ASD at any age and it will bring on social challenges that can make it difficult for an individual to function at school, work or home. According to the statistics released by the Centers for Disease Control, autism currently affects an estimated 1 in 59 children in the U.S.
Since ASD has many subtypes influenced by a combination of genetic and environmental factors, each individual diagnosed with autism has a different set of strengths and challenges.
They can be highly skilled or seriously challenged in problem solving, learning and thinking. Some may need significant support in their daily lives, while others do not require much help and in some cases are able to live entirely on their own.
Indicators of autism mostly appear in children between 2 or 3 years old and it can often be diagnosed as early as 18 month. There are many treatment options which include therapy and traditional medications. But if you have a child diagnosed with autism, it might be interesting for you to hear about a third option which is relatively new, not 100% backed up by science but still promising. Some parents of children with autism, have reported that cannabidiol (CBD) has been effective in some ways for their situation. CBD is derived from cannabis or hemp plant, but it does not have any psychoactive effect, meaning you can use it for its medical effects without experiencing a high.
A Short History of Cannabis and Autism Studies
In 2015, Harvard University and Boston Children’s Hospital published a baseline review of cannabis and autism studies. Although the results were promising enough, there was not any definitive fact supporting the cannabis’ ability to improve autistic children. The Harvard review noted that all the studies up to 2015 were all animal-based and do not indicate any translational impacts on human subjects. The review also recommended that it would be better to use cannabis treatment as a last resort after other conventional therapies.
Since 2015 and the publication of Harvard review, a number of studies have been conducted on the subject and the only therapeutic effects of CBD which was approved by the FDA was a CBD oil-based elixir as a treatment for two types of children epilepsy.
New Promising Studies on the effects of CBD on Autism
A study on the effects of CBD on Autism was published in Neurology journal in 2018. According to this trial which was done in Israel medical cannabis is an effective therapy for children on the autism spectrum. In this study, researchers treated autistic children with high concentrations of CBD. The result showed that the general conditions in 80% of the children were improved, something that children with conventional drug therapy never experience.
This study was led by Dr. Adi Aran, who treated 60 children with CBD oil for seven months. In his published paper it was mentioned that after the treatment period, parents were asked to answer assessment questionnaires to characterize their child’s condition. Questions were mainly about behavioral changes, anxiety level and ability to communicate.
Here is the report:
- 80% of parents reported a decrease in problematic behaviors, 60% noted a significant general improvement.
- Half of the participants experienced improvements in communication.
- 40% reported a decrease in anxiety
Dr. Aran -the first researcher who studied the effect of cannabis on autistic children- started his first project in 2017 to test 120 autistic children. Before this study, all the other researches were confined to animals. Dr. Aran says that since the report of his research has been published, many families from all over Israel have been volunteered to participate in the next study.

Word-of-Mouth Reports
As a parent with an autistic child, it is quite reasonable to be skeptical before using any kind of new pharmaceuticals or organic medicine which could affect your child in unpredictable ways. The general quality of your child’s life is something you are constantly thinking about. Since there are not enough scientific facts about the possible effects of CBD on the symptoms of your autistic child, adding a new medicine with unknowing and possible side effects may not seem so wise but you might be a little less suspicious in making a decision if you hear about the experience of real people dealing with the same situation.
Aside from scientific studies, there are numerous individual experiences published by health organizations and news websites over the last few years which can be exciting for any family dealing with an autistic child and is somehow disappointed at the conventional pharmaceuticals which have serious side effects including weight gain, hyperprolactinemia, sedation, adverse cognitive effects and tardive dyskinesia.
Mothers Advocating Medical Marijuana for Autism (MAMMA) is one of those organizations working effortlessly to provide and publish testimonials from families who claim marijuana has helped their child’s symptoms. The main goal of MAMMA is to find a way for all children with autism to have legal access to medical marijuana under the care of a physician. Based on the testimonies on their website, CBD has helped controlling the symptoms of autism, including anxiety, self-injurious behaviors, sleep dysregulation and trouble with social communications. Even families living in states where medical marijuana is not legal have submitted anonymous testimonies and say they will continue to use marijuana illegally until legislation is passed in their states.
Mothers Advocating Medical Marijuana for Autism which works in seven U.S. states (Arizona, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Iowa and Illinois) supports families who consider themselves “medical refugees” moving across states to find eligible base for using medical marijuana.
In another study conducted on 547 parents of children with ASD using Amazon’s Mechanical Turk which collected responses from theses participants, ranging in age from 18 to 81.
Among these 547 parents, 40.4% tried CBD oil to control the symptoms of their autistic children. From this 40%, around 43% of the respondents added drops of CBD oil to drinking water and about 32% put the drops directly into their children’s mouth.
But the most important part of this report is the indications of the benefits of CBD on different symptoms. 50% of the respondents had children with impulse control disorder (ICD) and a short attention span, 50% with hyperactivity, 45% with aggression or unusual mood changes, and 30% with sleep dysregulation.
After the treatment, a number of benefits were reported such as a significant change in moods (56%), less anxiety (53%), and a noticeable decrease in stress (over45%) . Sleep dysregulation was affected by CBD in more than a third of the respondents and communication problems in around 30%.
Remedy Review asked these parents at the end of the survey about the general quality of life after starting treatment. Nearly 3 quarters reported a 72% better quality in their children’s life and also 93% claimed that they would recommend CBD to their families and friends for its health benefits.
How does CBD work with Autistic Children?
Cannabidiol (CBD) can reduce anxiety in everyone, not just those who are clinically considered sick. The first and most noticeable effect of CBD oil on autism is alleviating the behavioral symptoms such as anxiety, aggression, self-injurious behaviors and social interaction difficulties. The second one its effect on children with repetitive seizures. You may say since all the approved conventional medications already can do all these, what would be the use of switching to CBD oil. The main reason is the bonus of fewer side effects which we will take a look at below.
Most common side effects of CBD oil for autism
As most medications, CBD has its own potential side effects and health risks. If you are considering CBD oil to help with your child, it is seriously recommended to be aware of its possible side effects. Also let your child’s doctor know about the usage, dose and all the behavioral changes of your child at any time. Although CBD is considered a relatively safe and well-tolerated drug you would be better to know the possible side effects including nausea, vomiting, lightheadedness, drowsiness, low blood pressure, diarrhea, and dry mouth.
Just like any other medication always seek the advice of a physician to gather enough information about your special case.

New Jersey Cannabis Manufacturer License: How to Apply
The post New Jersey Cannabis Manufacturer License: How to Apply appeared first on Cannabis Industry Lawyer – Tom Howard.
New Jersey Cannabis Manufacturer License
Last month New Jersey made history by signing three bills into law, finally regulating the use of recreational marijuana in the State, and becoming one of the 14 states to legalize the recreational use of cannabis for adults 21 and older.
Right now it’s not possible to buy recreational cannabis anywhere in New Jersey, however, experts say it will be at least six months before the first legal cannabis sale will take place in New Jersey.
So, now it’s the perfect time to start preparing for the endeavor. Take into consideration that the licensing application can be tricky and confusing, that’s why you should always contact a professional to help you with your application.
What is a New Jersey Cannabis Manufacturer License
A Class 2 Cannabis Manufacturer License is a legal document that allows its owner to process cannabis items in the State of New Jersey by purchasing or otherwise obtaining usable cannabis, manufacturing, preparing, and packaging cannabis items, and selling, and optionally transporting, these items to other cannabis manufacturers, cannabis wholesalers, or cannabis retailers, but not to consumers.
A cannabis Manufacturer License shall be issued by the Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC) for the premises at which the cannabis is going to be manufactured.
RELATED POST: NEW JERSEY CANNABIS MICROBUSINESS LICENSE
RELATED POST: NEW JERSEY CULTIVATION LICENSE
How to apply for New Jersey Cannabis Manufacturer License
In order to apply for a Class 2 Cannabis Manufacturer License, the applicant must:
- Apply for a license in the manner described in the latest legislation and the CRC;
- Have at least one significantly involved person who has resided in this State for at least two years as of the date of the application, and provide proof that this person and any other person with financial interest who also has decision making authority for the cannabis manufacturer listed on an application submitted under the legislation is 21 years of age or older;
- Meet the requirements of any rule or regulation adopted by the CRC;
- Provide for each of the following persons to undergo a criminal history record background check: any owner, other than an owner who holds less than a five percent investment interest in the cannabis manufacturer or who is a member of a group that holds less than 20 percent investment interest in the cannabis cultivator and no member of that group holds more than a five percent interest in the total group investment, and who lacks the authority to make controlling decisions regarding the cannabis cultivator’s operations; any director; any officer; and any employee.
According to the legislation, the CRC has to adopt rules and regulations that:
- Provide for the annual renewal of the Class 2 Cannabis Manufacturer license;
- Establish application, licensure, and renewal of licensure fees for cannabis manufacturers;
- Require cannabis items manufactured by cannabis manufactures to be tested;
- Require a cannabis manufacturer to meet any public health and safety standards, industry best practices, and all applicable regulations established by the commission related to the manufacturing of cannabis items;
In relation to the fees, the legislation requires that they comply with the following:
- They shall be in the form of a schedule that imposes a greater fee for premises with more square footage; and
- Shall be deposited in the “Cannabis Regulatory, Enforcement Assistance, and Marketplace Modernization Fund”
A person who has been issued a license or conditional license shall display the license or conditional license at the premises at all times when cannabis items are being manufactured.
New Jersey Cannabis Manufacturer License Restrictions
For a period of 24 months after the effective date of the legislation it is unlawful for any owner, part owner, stockholder, officer, or director of any corporation, or any other person engaged in any retailing of any cannabis items to engage in the manufacturing of any cannabis items or to own either whole or in part, or to be a shareholder, officer or director of a corporation or association, directly or indirectly, interested in any cannabis manufacturer.
This basically means that, if you own a cannabis dispensary in New Jersey, you won’t be able to have a controlling interest in any cannabis manufacturing operation.
During the first 24 months, the holder of a Class 2 Cannabis Manufacturer License may hold one other license to operate another cannabis establishment, but it can’t be a Class 3 Cannabis Wholesaler License or a Class 5 Cannabis Retailer License.
Following that 24 month period, a cannabis license holder shall be authorized to hold a Class 1 Cannabis Cultivator License, a Class 2 Cannabis Manufacturer license, a Class 5 Cannabis Retailer license, and a Class 6 Cannabis Delivery license concurrently, provided that no license holder shall be authorized to concurrently hold more than one license of each class, except for an alternative treatment center that was deemed, during the 24 month period, to have an additional Class 5 Cannabis Retailer license for each satellite dispensary that was authorized and established by the alternative treatment center pursuant to the latest legislation These additional retailer licenses only permit the retail operation of each satellite dispensary, and shall not be replaced by any other class of cannabis establishment distributor, or delivery service license.
If you need more information about the licensing process, it is recommended that you contact an expert in the field so that you can get the necessary guidance in your endeavor.

Moira, played by actress Catherine O’Hara, is far from domesticated – to say the least.
Coming from a ton of money, she is totally out of her element when it comes to cooking or being a Mother for that fact.
She decides, however, that she needs to create her aunt’s famous enchiladas recipe for a family dinner to restore her role as a good Mother, and at the same time commissions David, her son, to help.
David Rose, played by actor Dan Levy, has some mad skills, but absolutely NONE in the kitchen!
The two of them together are basically a hot mess and who knows if the family dinner turned out or not, but what we do know how to make is weed-infused enchiladas that work!
Cannabis Enchiladas

Servings: 4 people
Cost: 20
-
Oven-safe casserole dish
-
Mixing Bowl
-
Spoon
- 1 cup shredded chicken
- 1 cup enchilada sauce divided
- 1 cup grated cheese any kind you like
- 5 tortillas whole wheat or any kind you like
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup fresh cilantro chopped

-
Mix the chicken, half of the enchilada sauce, and half of the cheese blend in a bowl.
-
Wrap the tortillas in a paper towel and microwave for 30 seconds.
-
Preheat oven to 350°F
-
Place the chicken on the tortilla and roll tightly.
-
Place the enchiladas in a baking pan and top with the remaining cheese and sauce
-
Bake for 15 minutes, or until cheese has melted.
-
Top with sour cream and cilantro.
As the series continues on, a re-branding and refreshing of the Budd Motel are in serious order.
Johnny, played by actor Eugene Levy decides that they need to offer something ‘more’.
His decision to source and offer cinnamon buns doesn’t exactly turn out the way he thought they would, but we bet if he offered cinnamon buns with weed, he’d have bookings at the motel for a year in advance!
Cannabis Cinnamon Buns

Servings: 4 people
Cost: 40
- 3/4 cup Cannabis milk
- 2 1/4 tsp Active Yeast
- 1/4 cup Sugar Finely Granulated
- 1 Egg yolk Room temp – not straight from the fridge
- 1/4 cup Cannabutter
- 3 cups Bread Flour
- 3/4 tsp Salt or a dash – same thing!
Cinnamon Filling
- 1/3 cup Brown Sugar
- 1 1/2 tbsp Cinnamon Finely ground
- 1/4 cup Cannabutter
Cinnamon Roll Frosting
- 4 oz Cream Cheese full fat
- 3 tbsp Cannabutter
- 3/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract fresh, pure organic if possible
-
Using warm Cannabis Milk, and add it to your mixing bowl. Using your electric mixer slowly sprinkle yeast on top. You’ll know your yeast has activated if it begins to foam after a few minutes. If it hasn’t, then start over; your cannabis milk was either too hot or too cold.
-
Once you see foam, add in sugar, egg, egg yolk and cannabis butter. Mix,mix, mix! Next, stir in flour and salt with a wooden spoon until a dough begins to form.
-
Use your dough hook or hands. If using your electric mixer, knead the dough on medium speed for about 8 minutes. Alternatively, use your hands to knead the dough for 8-10 minutes on a well-floured surface. The dough should feel slightly sticky and form a nice ball. Next step!
-
Transfer dough to your bowl, ( some bakers use a little oil here, spread it all over the bowl, an dplacedough inside. Your call, but it helps. Then, cover with plastic wrap and a warm towel. Allow dough to rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
-
After dough has doubled in size, transfer the dough to a well-floured surface and roll out into a 14×9 inch rectangle. Spread your Cannabis butter over dough, evenly, leaving a ¼ inch at the far side of the dough. ( the side furthest away from you)
Cinnamon Filling
-
In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon. Use your hands to sprinkle mixture over the buttered dough evenly. It will stick perfectly!
-
Roll up your dough tightly, (for beginners: like you’re rolling up a bath towel) starting from the 9 inch side. Be sure to seal the edges of the dough.
-
Cut into 1 inch sections with a serrated knife. You should get about 9 large pieces.
-
Place cinnamon rolls in a parchment paper-lined 9×9 inch baking pan or round 9 inch cake pan. Cover with plastic wrap and a warm towel and let rise again for 30 minutes.
-
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Remove plastic wrap and towel and bake cinnamon rolls for 20-25 minutes or until just slightly golden brown on the edges. It sounds weird, but you want to underbake them a little so they stay soft in the middle. Let them cool for 5-7 minutes before frosting. Seriously! You have to wait before you frost.
Frosting (do this while rolls are baking in oven)
-
Using your electric mixer, combine cream cheese, cannabis butter, powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Beat it until it’s smooth and fluffy. Spread over top of your baked cinnamon rolls (after waiting the horrible 5-7 minutes to let them cool down!)
Here are some other things we bet Moira & David would be able to make a little easier.
Follow our fun and step-by-step recipes below to make weed edibles everyone will love.

In one of my favorite episodes, Stevie Budd and David steal a stash of weed from a guest at the motel’s room and smoke it.

CBD for IBS
CBD is often touted for its benefits, both physical and mental. IBS…
The post CBD for IBS appeared first on American Marijuana.

Central to the efficacy of CBD for pain or inflammation relief is the dosage that you use. Unlike a standard pain relieving or anti-inflammatory medication, where the dosage is clearly spelled out on the back label, using CBD can be much more tricky.
Truthfully, it is hard to prescribe a “one size fits all” for CBD dosing. General CBD dosing guidelines state that it is best to start small (i.e. 5mg) and make note of how it affects your body. If you do not find it is sufficient, then you can begin to gradually up the dosage.
If you are using an edible gummy, measuring 5mg will be easy. However, if you are using CBD oil for IBS, it can be a bit more complicated to measure out 5mg. You can use this as a guideline: most CBD oil bottles will come with a dropper that can hold 1 ml of liquid. If your CBD bottle contains 500 mg of CBD, for example, then you can estimate that there are 0.05 mg of CBD per drop. This number, of course, will vary depending on the amount of CBD that is in your particular bottle, but you can base your dosage off of this mathematical formula.
There are other factors that will affect what is the correct CBD dosage for you, such as your age, weight, and even your body chemistry, which can be a rather abstract thing to measure. This means that discovering the correct dosage for you really comes down to a matter of trial and error.
