When we talk about CBD, most of us instantly think about CBD-infused gummies, e-liquid cartridges and oral tinctures that are made with hemp extract.  But, as our industry continues to evolve, we’re finding more ways to experience hemp, and some of the latest methods involve using more of the actual plant material.

One new trend that we’re excited about in particular
is CBD
hash, or hashish

CBD hash is made from the sticky resin that is naturally secreted from
the resin glands of the female hemp plant.
These resin glands are called trichomes, and they’re found throughout
the entirety of the plant material, whereas hemp oil is extracted solely from
the buds.  CBD hash is extremely potent,
and comes in the form of a thick, dark substance that can be waxy, oily or
solid in consistency.

CBD hash is unique in that it contains more of the
actual plant than the majority of commercial CBD products.  Therefore, some people prefer it to what’s
commonly found on the market today.  If
you’re interested in trying out CBD hash for yourself, know that there are a
few different ways to experience it.

We also want to point out that like all hemp-based
products, CBD hash is legal and non-psychoactive.  That’s because hash that’s derived from the
hemp plant contains too little an amount of THC to provide psychoactive
effects.

Method #1: Smoking It

The most popular way to consume CBD hash is to smoke it using traditional methods.  In fact, cannabis hash has been smoked for centuries by many different cultures.  It’s relatively easy to smoke due to its consistency, which allows for a relatively smooth draw when a hit is fired.

There are two main ways to smoke CBD hash:

  • Traditional Pipe:
Contains a small chamber known as a bowl into which you insert your desired
amount of hash.  Then, you apply heat
directly to the hash with a lighter.
This allows a small amount of smoke to be created that can be quickly
    inhaled through the mouthpiece.
  • Bong: A
lot like a pipe, except that it contains a water chamber.  Just like when using a pipe, you insert a
small amount of CBD hash into the bowl portion of the bong, and light it.  But, because the bong contains water, you’ll
experience a bubbling effect that allows water to interact with the smoke,
cooling it down and allowing it to be smoother.
Typically, bongs are made from glass.

Method #2: Vaping It

Vaping is a relatively new method of consumption, and
the vaping industry is evolving rapidly, allowing us to enjoy our CBD hash in a
number of ways.  Unlike smoking CBD hash,
vaping it allows us to inhale all of those hemp compounds without actually
consuming any smoke.  Vaporizers utilize
electricity to heat the hash without the use of combustion, which in turn
produces vapor rather than smoke.

There are a few different types of hash vaporizers on
the market.  There are large tabletop
vaporizers that are extremely powerful, producing more potent hits.  Then, there are portable vaporizers which
allow you to enjoy small amounts of CBD hash at a time.  It must be pointed out that you should only
vape CBD hash in a vaporizer device that was intended for this purpose.

Method #3: Cooking with It

Cooking with CBD hash is becoming more popular these
days.  CBD hash needs to be heated for
its compounds to be activated and more bioavailable, so it all starts with
cooking the hash at a low heat.  Then,
it’s combined with other ingredients to create a dish.  Some of the most popular recipes for CBD hash
are baked goods such as brownies, cookies and cakes.  Many people also create CBD hash candies.

#4: Making a Topical with It

Lastly, you can make a topical with CBD hash.  We recommend heating the CBD hash prior to
adding it to your topical recipe so that the compounds are more bioavailable
and activated.  Then, you can mix the
hash with ingredients that absorb easily through the skin, such as plant-based
oils.  You can also add essential oils so
that the resulting product has aromatherapeutic properties.  Topicals are massaged onto the skin for quick
absorption.

Nice to Have Some CBD Hash Choices

CBD hash is quickly becoming a sought-after item due to how unique it is, as well as its versatility.  If you wanna get the most out of CBD hash, consider using it in one of the four ways listed above.  Like most things when it comes to CBD, the key to having a blissful experience is experimenting until you find what works best for your unique needs and preferences.

On November 10, Senator Scott Wiener announced that he would soon introduce legislation that would decriminalize psychedelic substances in California.

Cannabis was a big hit in the last elections, and some psychedelic bills were approved. Washington, D.C. has decriminalized psychedelic plants and Oregon has decriminalized all drugs and therapy with psilocybin, the main active ingredient in hallucinogenic mushrooms.

“These drugs have been shown to have medicinal value in treating depression, PTSD, and other conditions,” Wiener tweeted. “We need to stop criminalizing drug use and addiction.

Last June, Oakland, California, joined Denver, Colorado, and decriminalized psychedelic substances such as psilocybin mushrooms.

“There is strong support for ending the failed war on drugs, which criminalizes communities of color and those suffering from addiction,” said Wiener. “People need treatment, not jail.

Wiener mentioned that other members of the California State Assembly, Evan Low, and Sydney Kamlager, joined the group as co-sponsors of his proposal. One of Wiener’s other goals is to establish safe injection sites in areas with drug problems. The San Francisco Bay Area has a history of progressive drug reform policies, not only in California but throughout the United States.

We know, we know – you finally got the hang of CBD, what it is, how to use it and the types of products that are available, and all of a sudden, a whole bunch of new terminology has entered the picture.  One of the current hemp-related buzzwords is dabbing, and many people who don’t quite know what it is feel intimidated by it, believing that it can only be used if a person has a lot of experience with hemp, as well as the technology involved.

However, dabbing is a lot simpler than it sounds.  Further, it’s absolutely worth giving a try, because of the things that make it unique from other types of hemp products.

Of all the ways to experience hemp, dabs remain one of the most popular of all.  Yet, many people, including daily CBD users, still don’t quite understand what they are.  That’s why we’re here today.  When it comes to dabbing, the most popular method is smoking.  So, that’s what we will be explaining.  By the end of this article, you’ll have a complete understanding of what dabbing is, and how to smoke dabs in a way that will produce the best possible experience.

What are Dabs?

First, let’s explain what dabs are.  Dabs refer to any concentrate of a hemp product that is intended to be dabbed, which refers to the way in which it’s inhaled.  There are a number of different types of hemp concentrates out there, with waxes, shatters, resins, rosins, and hashes being the most popular.  They may all sound like the same thing, and yes, they are all in fact extremely potent, highly concentrated, and uniquely thick hemp substances, but they are produced via different means, and have different consistencies.  No type of concentrate is objectively superior to the rest, as it is all about personal preference.

What is Dabbing?

Dabbing is a way to inhale highly concentrated CBD via flash vaporization or smoking.  Basically, rather than being placed in a chamber, a small amount of CBD concentrate is positioned on what’s known as a nail, which is sort of similar to a vaping coil.  The nail is heated, which allows the concentrate to get very hot very fast, producing an intense amount of vapor or smoke that’s quickly inhaled into the lungs.

What’s So Great About Dabbing?

Well, if you’re someone who prefers a more potent CBD experience, dabbing is a great way to go.  Due to the nature of the inhalation delivery method combined with the high concentration of the product, you’ll be getting a very, very potent dose of CBD that acts very quickly.

How Can a Person Smoke Dabs Successfully?

So, what do you do with dabs? Well, based on what most people prefer, you smoke them. And, to do this, you can’t just use any old smoking device, like that pipe that you have lying around, or your trusty rolling papers. You need a dab rig, which may look a bit like a bong, but has some major structural differences. A dab rig has the mouthpiece that you’re used to, but the concentrate sits on a nail rather than inside of a bowl. This allows you to place a small amount of concentrate onto the nail, and then heat it so that you end up with a flash-heated, extremely concentrated hit of concentrate.

What You’ll Need

These things will get you on your dabbing way.

CBD Concentrate

You can use wax, shatter, or resin, depending on what suits your needs.  These concentrates vary mostly in terms of consistency and are all dab-friendly.  The main difference is the texture.  Also, resin is a solvent-free concentrate, unlike the others. Once you’ve selected the right concentrate type, you’ll want to find a trustworthy company to buy it from, and choose a strain that suits your preferences.

Dabbing Setup, Sometimes Called a Dab Pen

You can’t simply use a standard vaporizer device or pipe, because dabbing, by nature, requires a specialized system.  A dabbing system is called a dab rig, and dab rigs exist in vaporizer form as well as pipe form.  However, for this piece, we will focus on dabbing rigs that are vaporizers, because they’re far more popular.

A dab rig vaping setup consists, in simple terms, of the device itself which contains the battery, the nail onto which the concentrate sits, and the mouthpiece which acts as a chimney for the vapor.

Electronic dab rigs come in a wide variety of options.  They come in various sizes and shapes and are made from a number of materials.  Further, some have more customizable options than others, such as temperatures and wattage levels.  Basically, it’s up to you to explore the wide array that’s available and choose one that seems like it’s in line with your personal preferences.  There are plenty of user-friendly options for beginners, as well as high-tech choices for more advanced dabbers.

Setting it Up Turning it On

To  get the system set up, you’ll need to turn it on using the power button.  Insert some concentrate onto the nail.  Be careful when handling concentrate, as it tends to be sticky.  You’ll likely need a specialized device so that it doesn’t get all over your fingers.

Dabbing

Now, here comes the fun part.  Your dab pen will have a firing button.  When this button is pressed, the concentrate will be quickly heated on the nail, which will allow it to turn into vapor.  This means that once you press it, you must put your lips around the mouthpiece and pull in.  You’ll get a lot of concentrated vapor right away.  Then, you can lift up the mouthpiece to see how much concentrate is still on your nail, as in, how much didn’t yet vaporize.  This will tell you whether or not you need to add more concentrate in order to take more hits.

Or, you may decide that one hit is plenty for now.  In fact, we suggest that beginners start with one hit and wait a while to see how they feel.  From there, they can take more if they so choose.

How to Maintain Your Setup

Remember that owning a dabbing setup requires maintenance.  Once each week or every two weeks, take apart your whole setup and clean it thoroughly.

Get Your Dab on Today!

Dabbing has become hugely popular in recent years, and it’s safe to say that it isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.  If you wish to start dabbing, use this guide as your reference so that you can grab the right setup and get the most out of it.

DEA Files Lawsuit Against Hemp Activists

As we reported recently, hemp activists have questioned why the US Drug Enforcement Administration considers temporary hemp production byproduct to be a Schedule 1 substance.

The DEA has now responded to the challenge, saying it “is not required to explain how the (rule) applies to every hypothetical circumstance.”

The DEA went further and criticized the activists’ attempts to seek a speedy resolution. “It is never appropriate for a private party … to hijack an agency’s policy making process to receive expedited consideration of their own concerns,” said the DEA. The DEA also suggested that the hemp case be moved from the district court to an appeals court.

The challenge in question was put forth by the Hemp Industries Association and South Carolina CBD maker RE Botanicals in reaction to a rule the DEA issued last summer.

According to the DEA, it was updating its policies to comply with the 2018 Farm Bill, but hemp activists say the DEA is making an illegal power grab.

The Farm Bill removed low-THC cannabis from the Controlled Substances Act, effectively making CBD products legal. But the new policies from the DEA say that hemp extracts are still Schedule 1 controlled substances when they spike beyond allowable limits during a specific portion of the extraction process.

The Vitamin Shoppe® Releases Line of Full Spectrum & Broad Spectrum CBD Hemp Extract Products
